"file" reports actual useful information for most of my video files.
(Aspect ratio, fps, video format, audio format, and bitrate)

The error from idvid is in the Audio section, so I doubt that it is related to
the Video aspect ratios, unless the Video failure is causing the Audio
information to be missing or reported incorrectly.
