Ripping a Copy Controlled CD

I just bought a cd and I would like to rip it and encode the songs to
mp3 to listen to at my leisure at my desk (via desktop, Linux). 

The package says it's copy controlled and Grip doesn't do _any_thing
with it. Just sits there. 

What is with this? Is there any way around the copy control?? It is _my_
cd, you know? I should be able to do with it as I please.
