The Divx format seems to work really well. There are a couple of spin
offs of it as well, including xvid. I can't speak for them, but I've
used Divx for some personal projects, and it is as good as they say it
is.

Subject: Streaming Video

I offered to rip a DVD of a fundraiser for a local non-profit so they
could post it on their web site. I figured MPEG4 + MP3 would be a
reasonable lowest common denomenator but it appears that it is not--the
tested Windows systems didn't know what to do with the resulting .avi.
Anyone have any recommendations on a video format that would work well
on a range of systems at about 300 kbit/sec @ 320x240 resolution?
