I had issues with Mandrake 10 and the slow resolving hosts... Problem seems 
fixed by adding the default gateway...
Mandrake Control Center > Network & Internet > Manage Connections > and for 
some reason the settings under DHCP are greyed out?? Change to "Static" and 
apply your default gateway (Mine is 192,168.1.1) then shift back to "DHCP" 
and the setting will still be greyed out, but the gateway setting is still 
there. Seems odd but browsers work fine now....
