what does the ls command say about your localtime ?:

dattaway at twilight dattaway $ ls -al /etc/localtime 

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  27 Dec  5 02:37 /etc/localtime -> /usr/share/zoneinfo/CST6CDT
