Hello All!

I just felt like sharing. Anyone else out there have a favorite tool they
want to share?

I came across Total Commander few versions ago and only used it for certain
things, but I started working with it a little more a week or two ago after
I accidentally noticed a new feature or two. I have now upgraded,
completely forsaken Windows Explorer, and I feel like I do my Admin work a
lot more efficiently with Commander. I'm not at all connected with the
Swiss guy that wrote it, I just REALLY like it, and I thought there might
be some other admins out there that would too. Among the features that
make my life easier are:

- A super-fast built in file viewer. Opens huge log files instantly, even
across the network.
- An option to background large file moves so you can keep working. You
can set it up have it alert you with a sound when it finishes.
- Option to copy NTFS file permissions when you copy files.
- Built-in option to browse zip and other archive files just like folders.
- Customizable toolbar that allows use of filename and directory variables
when executing programs.
- There's always a command line open on whatever directory you are
browsing.
- Built-in file compare, directory synchronization, file combine and split,
and mass file renaming utilities.
- Intuitive interface (very fast once you get used to it, and it makes
Explorer feel like molasses).
- Plug-ins available for using it to browse HTTP sites like directories,
browse your registry, event viewer, or system processes, and to undelete
files off of FAT partitions, among other things.
- It's small, and it's fast. Mine's sitting at a whole 2.5MB installed,
and I have 10+ plug-ins slapped into mine. Cut out the fluff and help
files, and it comes in around 1.2MB installed. Talk about a small memory
footprint.

It's a powerful piece of shareware, and it fits on a floppy. It has some
nice features I don't even use too, like great FTP support that allows you
to browse FTP sites just like Windows directories, and multilanguage
support. I just can't say enough good things about this program. You can
download it at:

Enjoy!
