Networking DSL/Cabling Issues

The cable connecting the modem to the router must be a crossover cable.  This 
is the cable that was originally connecting your modem directly to your 
computer.  Then, you can use standard CAT5 cable to connect your computers to 
the router.  Don't worry about the 10baseT, any CAT5 cable will work... It 
can connect at 10mbps or 100mbps.

Your problem is that you're using the patch cable that was intended to connect 
a pc to the router, which means it is a standard CAT5 cable, rather than a 
crossover CAT5 cable.
