Updating kernal

I am updating my kernel for the first time and I am having problems changing the link.

I have RH 7.3

What I think I want to do is change the link from the old kernel to the new one

linux-2.4 -> linux-2.4.20-13.7
to
linux-2.4 -> linux-2.4.6

but every time I type "ln -s linux-2.4.6 linux-2.4" or "ln -sf linux-2.4.6 linux-2.4" it doesn't 
change

What is the best way to change it while preserving the other kernel.
