Work on a production server should go for $75-$150/hr. High end
specialists like the VAX consultants I know get $300. Not that it's
easy to get, and you have to remember that since you bill only for time
working on the server, you're covering a bunch of non-billed time. You
have to be good, have good connections, and a good sales force behind
you (you, if you can wear that hat too) to get enough work to make a
living at it. You provide your own benefits, typically about 35% of
your income, minimum of about $20/hr.
There are plenty of people out there who try to undercut that. You can
get someone to come work on a PC for about $35/hr., but you get what
you pay for.
