Mouse settings in X

I'm working on installing my first desktop linux system, and have jumped
in with both feet (selecting a motherboard requiring a custom kernel
build and graphics card requiring installation of NVidia's non-gpl drivers).

Anyway, I seem to have X up and running, at least as long as I don't
plug more than one monitor in at a time (still tracking that down), so
my current problem is the mouse, which currently requires *LARGE* waves
of the arm to cross the screen.

I run the logitech drivers in windows, which allow me to set the mouse
sensitivity, and add ballistic effects which minimize the motion
required for large on-screen moves. Is there anything like this for X?
The mouse configuration screen only lets me pick which hardware mouse
I have installed, and that much is setup correctly already...
