File Association problem in KDE

Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> File Associations -> Find file name 
pattern (.htm) open up +text.  Then Under the embedded tab, make sure 
KHTML is first in the list.  Show in embedded viewer should also be 
selected to work the way you are describing.
