Have you thought about using distcc and ccache?
I haven't fully tested distcc but it appears to be able to gracefully handle
systems that drop off the network when doing distributed compiling. I've got
one system here running gentoo that drops off the network for no aparent
reason and it doesn't affect my distributed compiles.
