There are a multitude of internet radio stations and transmission
formats.  The leading formats are Windows Media, RealAudio, MP3
streaming, and ogg vorbis streaming.  I tend to prefer MP3 and ogg
vorbis streaming, because I can listen to it with most mp3 players (e.g.
xmms, winamp, sonique, etc).  Windows Media requrires windows media
player, and RealAudio requires the Real Player.  If you hear of an
ICEcast/Shoutcast internet radio station, it is usually transmitting mp3
or ogg vorbis streams.
