Sendmail Question

Let's say I have a linux server that is a mail server for domain.com.
If I setup an mail alias joe at domain.com to forward to joe at yahoo.com,
would a 2MB email go to my email server, then get sent back out to joe at yahoo.com
(total 4MB of bandwith) or does it hit my server, then gets relayed before
really getting "downloaded" to my server?

I hope this makes sense.
