What is Linux to you?

Everybody has a different interpretation of what Linux is to them. 
 What's the almighty penguin's reason for being on your system?

Also, What do you love about Linux?

I personally enjoy building my own systems from scratch that are 
extremely reliable and effecient and comply to all the standards of the 
Linux community.  Sitting over a keyboard with my head in my hands is 
just another day to me :)
