Not as a back-up medium, it hasn't. I certainly cannot perform back-ups to any
of the blank DVD+R sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Our Windows counterparts
are also reportedly finding DVD recording software rediculously difficult to use.

Only Apple has succeded in bringing it to market with their iDVD software and
even then it seems to be exclusively video oriented.
