New Super-Compression?

The think I find funny about this is under the example they give under
"Compression vs. Quality", they took a screenshot of what I'm assuming
is the 'original' image side by side with the 'compressed' image - which
they then proceeded to save as a *lossy* .jpg image for you to compare
the two.

For all I know, any visual differences there really are between the
compressed and original could be hidden due to the lossy format they
saved the screenshot in. Anyway, it's not something that can really
been seen and compared without actually having the compression software
and seeing it first hand.

Subject: New Super-Compression?

Alright, so I've seen these claims before and they are always vaporware
or
just flat out lying...so I'm pretty skeptical of this, but I want to
hear
what you guys think.

A friend of mine is a consultant for a local company (who would remain
nameless, but I've gotta give you guys a link for this) and they've
partnered
with a company that supposedly has a new compression algorithm that can
dramatically reduce the size of files (for example, from 8MB to less
than
100k for an image). You can find out info about it at:

http://www.entrekc.com/products/compression.html

While he was telling me this, I tried my damndest not to laugh. He says
that
he has actually seen this stuff in action (though only still images, of
course...no video yet...hmmm...and what's easier to fake?).

So what do you guys think? Anyone done any research into compression
stuff
and could quantify my gut feeling that this is B.S.? Or could I just
happen
to be wrong on this? (I wouldn't mind it if I was wrong, of
course...but I
doubt it.)

Crazy? I'll tell you what crazy is. Crazy is running around with half
a melon on my head screaming "I'M A HAMSTER, I'M A HAMSTER,
I'M A HAMSTER!!" Now that's crazy.
