Edit > Preferences > Mail & Newsgroups > Use this font when displaying plain
text messages: Fixed width font.
Edit > Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings > [your account] > Compose messages in
HTML format > uncheck
If you start to write a response and the wrapping is a bit odd, just go:
Options > Rewrap

Now you can rest easier when Mozilla saves your logins and passwords.
Mozilla 1.1 adds the ability to force a message to display in plain text only.
