[Ctrl]-[Alt]-[F1-6] to change to a different mingetty terminall (tty1-6)
{Ctrl]-[Alt]-[F7] to switch back to X

Try: [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Backspace] to kill the current Xserver.

or if your in init 5 (X11), try:

# /sbin/telinit 3

You can edit your /etc/inittab file to load runlevel 3 from now on by changing
the line that looks like this:

id:5:initdefault:

to this:

id:3:initdefault:
