IP Troubles

I'm stuck,

I have a linux server that has 2 nics installed. 1st nic has a couple
public ips, and the 2nd nic has 1 private ip.

The private network, is connected to nat firwall/router, and then to the
internet.

The public nic is also connected to a different router.

My problem is when I bring the 2nd nic up, the box stops accepting
connections to the public ip address.

Its late so sorry if I make no sense, but what I'm wanting to do is get
to a nfs exported drive on my private network, from my linux server with
the nic card that has the private ip. But still have the public ips
working. This is a webserver/dns server, and I want to make some files
available for download from my linux desktop, thru apache running on my
server.

I am very open to other solutions, as I read my message I know it sounds
like a messed up network setup.

Thanks,

-Bill
