  Yes, you can use the telnet =protocol= for these things, but what people
are objecting to is using an unencrypted protocol to connect to a shell over
a packet-forwarding network, making the connection vulnerable to various Man
In The Middle attacks, the simplest of which is just reading your password.
If you want to use telnet over an encrypted VPN tunnel, OTOH, you have
pretty much the same security as you have with SSH.
