Comcast Cable Modem install?

What do you mean "only connect the cable modem to the firewall or you will
have to work around that"? What else would you connect the firewall to?
The only MAC address authentication that they do is on the Cable modem
itself, at least so far that I am aware. I am using an old 486 as my
firewall with an old ISA NIC. The PCI NIC that they gave me is on another
machine.
