Reading BRU Backup tapes

I have some 8mm Exabyte backup tapes that were generated by the Caldera
OEM edition of BRU. I don't know much about the Caldera install these
tapes were made on, except that's it would be pretty old by today's
standards (2.0 series kernel).

The machine has long since been replaced with a RH install (first RH
6.2, now RH 7.2). Does anyone know a way to read BRU formatted tapes
(tar barfs on them), or am I going to have to pick up a BRU license (or
build an old caldera system) to get to these files?

NOTE: I'm not even 100% sure the tapes were generated by BRU, but
reading in the first few sectors with dd and running strings yeilds the
following:

[root at raven tapetest]# strings test
/dev/st0
     43eb 0 03a43f875 8000cb4100001234 0 f 0 7d0

        0 0/dev/st0
