Firewall - Problems

I have to say I don't have any problems with a similar setup.  However, I do
run tasks throughout the night - fetchmail and a script that posts my IP to
a web site - and that may make the difference.  Try a cron job every hour
that accesses the internet, see if that keeps the link up.
