Use the command hostname <yourhostname>. If you have a domain name,
include that too:
hostname <yourhostname.yourdomain.com>
The hosts file is for local DNS mapping and not what you should modify
(back out your changes). If you don't understand DNS, I'd strongly
recommend finding a good tutorial on the internet about it. DNS is a
fundamental technology for making the internet usable for the average
Joe. Basically, you can map a name like www.yahoo.com to an IP address
like 123.45.67.89.
The site www.tldp.org (?) Linux doc project is a good place to start for
the beginner.
