problem:data connection reset

It is likely that the ftp server is behind a NAT'd firewall.

Here are some summarized scenarios/solutions:

"PORT refused", "cannot connect", "connection refused", "connection
reset by peer" or similar messages in the server's log: Reconfigure the
client to use passive-mode data connections (PASV).

"possible PASV port theft" in the server's log: Reconfigure the client
to use port-mode data connections (PORT). If this causes "PORT refused"
contact your network administrator or ISP for assistance using their
proxy. If there is no proxy, inform them they need one.

"cannot connect", "connection refused", "connection reset by peer" or
similar messages on the client: Reconfigure the server to report its
true address in response to the PASV command using the 'passive address'
   clause in the ftpaccess file.
