luckily, you've picked the right OS, since the compilers, debuggers,
librarys, etc. are free
and linux games are all (or should be) open source. I would venture to
say you've got 
a little ways to go, but don't give up. Programming games is a good way
to learn to complex programming techniques. It beats accounting
software. Start by checking out gcc, python, SDL, mesa,
www.happypenguin.com, and www.madmonkey.net
