User Account Expired

This is the email I sent earlier... I never received
it but, I received the Test...

Good Morning Everyone:

Last Friday I added five accounts to a Linux server
running RH 6.2 using the following commands:

useradd <username>
passwd <password>

Today the users tried to login and they get "Your
account has expired" message. Why did this happened.
There is no ! in the password field in /etc/passwd
file.

What may have cause all the accounts to expire?
