What I would suggest is to create the default a1 boot disk (from SLS) and use
it to boot up. Once booted you can mount the Linux/minix partition. The root
password as you recall is none existent with the init boot.

Don't forget to make a mount point before issuing the mount command.

This of course assumes that the default boot supports your hard drive
controller. If not, you will need a kernel with support for it for this to
work.
