Try using each of the bitmap images with xsetroot and then banging on the
side of the monitor lightly. The Sony trinitron is more susceptible to
vibration when vertical lines are displayed because it has a rectangular
holes in the shadow mask. This makes the pixels blend together easier but
there is less support for the mask as there is less metal there and
in a room with a lot of vibration that background wavering can make
your eyes hurt after several hours of looking at it.
