I agree with this idea.
I just joined the list a few days ago, but I just wanted to toss out the idea that I may have a location to host some KCLUG meetings.
I think if the meetings moved around, we'd probably get more people attending over-all. I know I don't want to deal with $7/hr parking downtown to meet in the glided and book-less library, but I did make it to a meeting when they were at the FOSS training center on State Line.
I always park around the corner or on next block over from library. I haven't paid for parking yet. On 11/6/06, Jonathan Hutchins <hutchins@tarcanfel.org> wrote:

Actually the parking in the garage after 17:00 is a $2 fee (not per hour, a total of $2). I however would agree it would be handy to have a meeting in a facility that was more accessible for users that would like to bring in hardware (the library room is on the 3rd floor in a conference room type room with limited power and network jacks). Dragging a CPU/Keyboard/Mouse/CRT Monitor can become a challenge. Just my two cents... Regards, Steven On 11/6/06, Jonathan Hutchins <hutchins@tarcanfel.org> wrote:

In the past, Netstandard has offered to host KCLUG meetings for free. The parking isn't the best there, it's a small lot. But everything is on camera, and there's free Starbucks coffee, and a nice presentation room with projector. Of course, free wifi and ethernet access in that room as well. Also, they've got a seperate camera system in the presentation room which could be used to record or stream the meetings. Rich On Monday 06 November 2006 3:46 pm, Steven Hildreth wrote:

Actually, the parking garage is only $1 when you get it validated by the library. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFFUAZ9E5xXU3JS1mQRAvPJAJ9nvV1nqLbODWYGdOw96Ps2DzouEQCguN3Z kckUHpscK8MMQW/660YGOh4= =bvZB -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I haven't had to pay any money to park near the library. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFFUAQGE5xXU3JS1mQRAuq0AJ9QonYVtvhzEAsbtWd4q+oWg2WhBwCfeHGX R4AslPisIg5PFBtmdFP8aLA= =wzIh -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Ok. Check the "regular" price for parking in that nice, fancy, inviting building next to the old bank, with all the book murals on it. I know I qualify as an old fart, but I remember when that was good money per hour. I exaggerated the price to make the point that i AIN'T payin' what downtown lawyers think is reasonable to park next to a library with no books. Lots of nice, airy marble-floored lobby though. Real smoooth.

Smooth like an 85 million dollar publicly financed smooth? That kind of smooth? Sweet!

As someone who spends a great deal of time in that library (and works downtown), I assure you that: A. After 6 pm, anyone who pays for parking downtown is blind, because there is plenty of parking to be had for free; B. There are plenty of excellent volumes there. Since moving to the historic Northeast in 2000, I have checked out hundreds of books there. If something is not on the stacks in Central, it is simplicity itself to have the book sent there (or to the library of your choice); C. Yes, the library has plenty of marble. Totally cool. -- Matthew G. Copple mcopple@gmail.com
