Moratorium on moderation/censorship/general whines.-give it up for lent eh?
At the risk of Unleashing more Dogma by a careless religious reference. ALL the Whines about altering the ways we post to the existing list. ALL the attempts at thinly disguised power grabbing. ALL the insincere clamor to Just Change Things to Some Other Way. Let's give it up for lent eh? After all- one IS to my understanding to sacrifice their deepest joy for lent. And it frankly seems as if trolling, flaming and general moaning has become some folk's all consuming joyous passion! My appearing Snarky is actually a bit more to prove a point. If you feel *MY* little screed to be not proper conduct here? Then we have established the concept of f improper conduct. . Which should be then held as such by ALL. Or do we now consider any conduct at all desirable with no regard to it's impact? I'd hoped to NOT have to say this- but kiddies- either we learn from the admittedly bad examples shown here by others before me- and choose constrictive content -as in? So... Sunday morning it's back to whining, power-grabbing, and Changing Things?

First off, some people don't celebrate (for lack of a better word) Lent. Secondly, Vatican II put a lot of joy back into Lent, and I doubt there are many pre-Vatican II folks on KCLUG (for example, Grandma eats fish on ALL Fridays and she's 97 years old). Thirdly, if we removed all the whining from KCLUG's mailing list, people wouldn't bother reading it because of the near complete inactivity. :-P ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! The number of Catholics ("pre-Vatican II folks") on the list compared with Vatican II sect members is irrelevant in light that Catholicism is still the true religion founded by Jesus Christ ~2000 years ago and Vatican II is merely a false religion founded by men merely 50 years ago. Globally, meat is generally forbidden on not only all Fridays, but all Saturdays as well. That we only need to abstain from meat on Fridays (and not Saturdays) is due to a specific regional exception for the United States.

FFS.. Can we drop this? Each religion considers eachother a "falshood" and frankly, it quickly becomes a circle jerk when someone starts bashing the other. Lets end this. Now please ? -- Joe Brouhard jbrouhard@gmail.com

That's an inaccurate generalization. Many religions consider other religions to be none of their business. The "civilizations of the world" class I took as a requirement for a bachelor's degree had a couple weeks on the Islamic empire, as an example of an empire that practiced tolerance -- well, the Greek empire was tolerant, as long as the conquered lands organized into city-states that was cool by Alexander; but there were a lot of column-inches devoted to stating how tolerant the Islamic Empire was. A google search http://www.google.com/search?q=tolerance+in+the+islamic+empire yields all sorts of interesting discussions of the history of tolerance as a civic value, such as http://www.cyberistan.org/islamic/toleran1.html and historians brandishing evidence and theories at each other http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/2008/02/myth-of-tolerance-in-classical-isl... Hooray for tolerance! Hooray for diversity! Very well. I stand corrected. :) I prefer toleration over anything else tbh. Everyone's right and everyone's wrong and all that jazz. :) On Sat, Mar 22, 2008 at 10:34 PM, David Nicol <davidnicol@gmail.com> wrote:

And it is exactly that attitude that leads people to Hell. Sin and evil should never be mere tolerated, including false religions which have for "gods" either material goods, pure fiction, or demons. Love is far superior to "tolerance", and it is through love that I admonish and correct people when I can. After all, if nobody corrects me, how likely am I to notice where I am wrong and make the changes necessary to avoid eternal punishment?

*SNORT* I didn't say Right versus Wrong, so stop twisting my words. I prefer tolerance over race, religion, and things like that. there is a moral ground for right and wrong and to be frakin honest, this is *NOT* the place to be debating this.

Uh.. Did I say that? Again, everyone has their own moral rules. Right versus wrong is not in the context I was refering to. Religious tolerance is far more superior than closed-minded thinking.

Do me a favor. Don't try to correct me. At all. All you've shown me is you'd rather get on your soapbox, preach to the choir, and flat out be rather rude and snobbish about your views. I'll admit i have a shred of arrogance in me, but I would never preach to ANYONE about religion. People are free to believe what they wish. NOne of us, for any reason whatsoever, have the right to correct the other as to what is the right way to believe and what isn't. That's my view, my opinion, and my belief. "preaching to the choir" is a figure of speech meaning "preaching to people who already agree with you" My question in response was also based upon that meaning: who on this list agrees with what I have been saying? BTW, your "favour" would actually be a great disservice.

I don't say that I can argue with charisma for any method, any company, any OS, or any religion. But I can tell you that I know what I practice. I know what faith I have. I live my faith (in religion primarily, but in other things also) like a little flower, always growing towards heaven... I knew a man once who felt that he was a individual of God. He felt that everyone should know that he was such an individual. He was always demonstrating this to others. He would say, "what a blessed morning this is," when others were looking at the rain with disgust. (As he said this, most of the people in the room would view him with disgust as well.) Any setback was a time to see why God had given him a gift of adversity...and he made sure that others knew this. "With God's willing..." Furthermore, he felt that everyone should have the great knowledge of God as well. He was always sharing God with anyone who would give him time. This man was an evangelist, showing how many people he could bring into the fold. Of a group of about twenty people that I grew up with, he walked away with eight. The rest he drove from the flock with his unthinking, peevish spouting that everything was a glorious miracle, and that God was always at his back. He over did it. I now know a Priest that shows everyone he is an individual of God. He wears a collar. If anyone asks him what he believes, he says "I am a Catholic. My creed is of Nicene." If that person wants to drop the conversation, or change it...the priest will allow that. If the person has questions, the priest will carefully and politely answer those questions. By him having a degree in Cannon Law, I feel the man is very knowledgeable. However, I would observe that his best moments come when he uses his time to befriend people in the community. He only brings up Catholicism when they ask about his beliefs or for his advice. If they ask for his advice, he will explain that he looks to Jesus and the Church for his answers, and people respect this of him. I guess this works, as his bishop has moved him twice to save failing parishes. I try to follow the second example when setting myself in front of people. I do this no matter if the venue is Catholicism, Scouting, Linux, or anything else. I've seen very modest success. If I fail, I remember the little flower. /me turns off microphone /me steps off soapbox /me leaves asbestos suit on

So since Vatican II is an official part of the Roman Catholic Church, we can assume you didn't like the way Catholicism was going with Vatican II so you forked the doctrine and didn't apply any of the Vatican II updates? I certainly hope your theological project manager has kept up with the other Catholic doctrine diff files. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals?
