So the Eee PC that I've been waiting for is out. And in real brick-n-mortars too. Apparently it's available from MC online and some stores are getting them in stock too. I was hoping to get out to the one here in town to see if they have any on display but car troubles got in the way. If I'm lucky I can swing by tomorrow evening and they might have one or two in stock (that I can't buy yet...) and MAYBE a demo out. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0275847 900Mhz/630Mhz on 100/70MHz bus (BIOS upgrades lets you change it) Celeron M 353 512MB RAM 4GB SSD WiFi Ultraportable- $400 is a steal for this class of subnotebook. http://www.microcenter.com/search_results_e.phtml?category_title=Name+Brand+... I've been looking at getting one too. I have a pre-order in at Citrusmicro.com. I was able to place the pre-order without actually putting any cash or card info down like other places required. They wanted to get a rough estimate of the demand for ordering purposes. Take a look at http://www.eeeuser.com/ and http://eeepc.asus.com/en/product.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_PC for more info. I'm pretty sure I'm getting one and I have the cash as of Friday. A review of the device: http://ct2.eletters.whatsnewnow.com/rd/cts?d=42-305-1-464-2088149-48083-0-0-... Unit available as of Nov. 1st. Newegg.com directron.com Microcenter.com Bestbuy and others. Brian On Nov 1, 2007 10:16 PM, Jon Pruente <> wrote:

Jon.
As of today Sunday, 4 November 2007, Micro Center at 93rd and Metcalf had only 4 white Eee PC's in the 4 GB Solid State Storage, 512 MB Ram model in stock, none on display but the salesman opened one up out of stock to show me. He did not install the battery or let me power up the system, but it looks nice and is incredibly light. Available colors are White, Black, Silver, pastel pink, and pastel blue. I am going to hold out for the 8GB, 1GB Ram model, myself. Thanks, Jeffrey A. McCright, A+ 816-210-3107 jmccright@hotmail.com

I was out there Saturday and acted interested enough that he plugged the battery in and booted it for me; it's pretty cool, with a 15 second boot time for its modified Debian OS and OO opening fast as lightning, compared to my previous experiences, BUT... No console or terminal that we could find with a cursory search; I asked if he'd let me try Ctl-Alt-Bkspc, but he didn't think that would be a good idea (I think by then he'd realized my impoverished condition...:-\ On Sun, 4 Nov 2007, Jeffrey McCright wrote:

IIRC either press Ctrl-Alt-t or you open the file manager then hit Ctrl-t. If I'd have had the time I would have pestered a salesman on Fri. when I stopped in. It is a modified Xandros, but built more on Debian Etch packages than the regular Xandros 4.0 base, I think. Jon.
