I try to use invidious these days:
Invidious Instances - Invidious Documentation

It's not a "TV App" though, or, I'm not sure what TV App means.  invidius is an alternate frontend to youtube, without ads.  Combine with Redirector ( https://einaregilsson.com/redirector/ ) and you can even browse/search via youtube or someone send you a youtube link, but right as it starts to load their add-bloated player, it redirects you to invidius' add free version.

We have been using Tablo TV https://www.tablotv.com/ for probably about 10 years. You can just plug in any external hard drive drive to it and there are multiple TV tuner versions. Playback is on anything that their app is on such as Samsung TV or Roku. And then we use Plex for downloaded files.

What TV app do you use to record "live" TV and access VOD?

YouTubeTV is getting rude and inserting commercials on recordings that don't already have them.
