Subject: Re: Win XP and repartitioning

Installing XP will not erase your linux partition, but it will overwrite
your boot loader... Before upgrading [RANT: an actual reformat of your
windows partition and fresh installation is the recommended method, the
NT setup of windows allows you to choose the partition easily and
finally the XP setup will do a quick format, no more 20 minutes waiting
for it format the huge drives some of us work with now] make sure to
make a bootdisk for your linux system... Do this with the mkbootdisk
command. TEST THIS DISK! You don't want to be caught unable to easily
boot back into linux!

Then upgrade to WinXP, and you will notice your bootloader is gone, and
XP loads automatically...

Boot back into Linux with your bootdisk and resinstall your boot loader
(for lilo run 'lilo' as root, grub takes a little more work to get
reconfigured)
