Please help!!!1

I have tried Redhat 8 & 9, Mandrake 8 & 9, a sound blaster live, and a
sound blaster 128 I cannot get the sound card to work. Every time Linux
loads I get "Loading mixer settings aumix FAILED"

I am at a loss. Both sound cards work perfectly. My system is a celron
950 with 384mb memory I don't know what else to do.
