KCLUG meetings are held on the first Wednesday and third Tuesday of each month. The meetings start at 6:30 pm, and usually run until 8:45. There is no membership or attendance charge. Currently, we meet at the Kansas City Public Library in downtown Kansas City, MO. The address is:

What is Linux?

Linux is a free Unix-type operating system originally created by Linus Torvalds with the assistance of developers around the world. Developed under the GNU General Public License , the source code for Linux is freely available to everyone.

What is a Linux Distribution?As a benefit to the source code for the Linux kernel being freely-distributed, a number of companies have developed their own "distribution" of Linux. Each of these distributions has it's own feature set, and some are geared towards specific types of computer systems. In some cases, they are available at no charge via FTP and in other cases they may be purchased on CD for a relatively low cost. Some of the more popular distributions are listed
