Brian,
Thanks for your reply! I am running it from my home computer (no firewall!).
1) no messages from pppd. it does not say it has created the connection. it
just says "trying to connect..."
2) pppd. the Debug button in the dialup configurator shows the log trace
3) yes, I try to ping. but since i did not know an actual i.p. address
offhand, I tried to ping cnn.com and also and bring up the browser to go to
cnn.com. failed.
4) yes, doing a ps shows pppd was still running.
thanks,
Anil.

Looking in the logfile would be a good starting point. It sounds like it is
working, after you connect and log in there really isn't anything else to do
except open up a browser and start surfing.
If the logfile doesn't help

Questions:
1) Do you see any messages from pppd?
2) What are you using for dialing? Can you watch the log file?
3) after it does nothing did you try to ping some internet address?
4) Is pppd still running in background at this point?

You might have a firewall problem, make user you have Redhat configured to
allow http traffic from and to you box.

Brian
