Network Engineer - Contract Position, Kansas City, MO / Atlanta, GA / Denver, 
CO / Minneapolis, MN
Job Summary       
 
 
 
Plans, designs, implements, monitors, and supports complex wired and wireless 
local area networks (LAN) in accordance with approved policies, processes, 
and procedures. Independently evaluates and solves advanced network problems. 
Assumes lead responsibilities in providing guidance and training to less 
experienced staff and directs staff activities, as requested. Develops, 
implements, and maintains departmental procedures to ensure network security 
and integrity. 
 
  
  
Key Activities  
 
 
 
 
Configures, installs, and supports Cisco routers and switches as well as other 
network transport devices.  
Independently completes complex communication hardware configuration and 
implementation.  
Provides advanced technical support functions for network design activities.  
Leads and guides less experienced staff in this effort.   
Performs in-depth analysis of multiple factors to provide advanced network 
system troubleshooting quickly and independently for complex communications 
issues.   
Conducts feasibility studies and develops requests for proposal (RFPs) for 
communication projects of high priority and complexity.  May direct less 
experienced staff in this effort.   
Plans and/or leads large scale communications projects of high priority and 
complexity.   
Acts as a front-line interface to other technical support teams.  
Works with other technical support teams to provide a stable network 
environment.  
Works with central Information Technology organizations to provide Internet 
and wide area network (WAN) connectivity.  
Monitors processes and logs of network equipment.  
Provides guidance and training to less experienced staff.   
Manages and documents change using a standard change management system.   
May lead long-range planning efforts and help define the technical direction 
of communication networks.  
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
 
 
 
Qualifications
 
 
Associate’s degree specializing in information systems, technology, or 
equivalent work experience.  Bachelor’s degree specializing in information 
systems, technology, or equivalent work experience preferred. 
At least five years of experience supporting, planning, designing, and 
implementing communications networks.  
Advanced Cisco certifications are preferred.
In-depth knowledge of various network technologies such as OSPF, Ethernet, IP 
Telephone, VoIP, QoS, and TCP/IP. 
Knowledge of project management principles and standards; previous practical 
experience preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
Good leadership skills.
